Origin and history
The Château de Réchicourt, located in the commune of Réchicourt-le-Château en Moselle (Great East Region), is a building dating back to the 15th century, with major construction or modification phases in the 2nd quarter of the 16th century, the 17th century, and the 18th century. This monument thus illustrates centuries of architectural evolution, mixing medieval, Renaissance and classical elements. It is now classified among the Historical Monuments, with a specific protection covering its facades, roofs, an 18th century staircase and two upstairs rooms.
The castle has been partially protected since 1988, when a decree inscribed its facades, roofs, as well as interior elements such as the 18th century staircase. These protections include the main house and an adjoining barn, reflecting the heritage importance of the site. Although available sources (Monumentum, Merimée base) do not specify its current use, its state of conservation and location (9 Rue du Château) make it a notable local historical landmark. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), based on available data.
The commune of Réchicourt-le-Château, integrated into the Moselle department and the former Lorraine region (now Grand Est), is part of a territory marked by a rich history, where castles often played a central role in social and economic organization. These buildings served as seigneurial residences, places of power, or agricultural centres, as suggested by the presence of a protected barn in the castle. The periods of construction of the monument coincide with phases of major transformations in Europe, such as the Renaissance or the beginnings of the modern era, although the sources do not detail its precise role during these periods.
