Castle, excluding the building of 19s which is attached to it (Box ZK 7): classification by order of 1 April 1988
Origin and history
The castle of Rilhac-Xaintrie consists of a body of rectangular houses, marked by a circular tower of stairs on its southern facade and an imposing round tower at the northwest corner. The 16th century bays, decorated with mouldings and surmounted by triangular pediments, bear witness to its Renaissance heritage. These architectural elements, supported by series of ground crows, illustrate the attention paid to its initial construction.
The building underwent major alterations, notably in the 19th century, following a partial fire that affected the housing body. These changes altered some original parts, while preserving medieval and Renaissance structures. The castle, classified as a Historical Monument by order of 1 April 1988, excludes, however, a 19th century building which is attached to it (cadastre ZK 7).
Located in the commune of Rilhac-Xaintrie (code Insee 19173), in Corrèze, the castle embodies the local architectural evolution, between seigneurial defense and residence of pleasure. Its location, reported with a geographical precision deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10), makes it a heritage landmark of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, formerly Limousin. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, accommodation).
