Origin and history

The castle of Rimaison, built in the 16th century (perhaps in 1579), replaces a 15th century mansion. It belonged to the family of Rimaison until the 18th century, then passed in 1749 to the Guergolays. In ruins since 1794 after its sale as a national property, its stones were reused to build the farm of Kerdanet (Le Sourn) and, later, the castle of Kergluyar in Pluvigner.

The remains included a body of Renaissance house in shale and granite, with a characteristic turret, an arcade vestibule giving access to a staircase and underground, as well as a chapel dedicated to Saint Remy. Only the vestibule remains on site after the site has been dismantled systematically. A chimney decorated with cariatides, classified in 1953, was sold and moved to the fort of Port Maria (Belle-Île-en-Mer).

The site is partially protected: ruins (excluding classified parts) are listed as historical monuments in 1925, while the facade of the vestibule is classified in 1958. In the 20th century, the park hosts a 9-hole golf course, built in the 1990s. Today, the castle is a private property, and its ruins bear witness to its aristocratic past and architectural transformations over the centuries.
