Origin and history
The Château de Rochemontès, located in Seilh in Haute-Garonne, is a rare example of 17th century Toulouse architecture, marked by the Louis XIII style. Its main façade, framed by two rectangular towers with pyramidal roof, opens with a curved door decorated with ionic pilasters. A balcony overlooks the entrance, while two smaller towers flank the secondary facade. To the left extend the communes, and to the right, a French garden, traditionally attributed to the famous landscaper André Le Nôtre, reinforces the prestige of this estate.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, the castle has had protected features since 1946 (eastern facade, orangery, park) and 2008 (castle, chapel, commons, fence walls, farmhouse and dovecote). The orangery and park, as well as the facades of the buildings surrounding the courtyard of the communes, testify to the historic and architectural significance of the site. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory a priori, although its exact address remains approximate (0 Rochemontes, 31840 Seilh).
The estate, with its dependencies and spatial organization (courtyard of commons, farmhouse, dovecote), reflects the typical arrangement of the aristocratic properties of the period. Although the information about its opening to the public or its current uses (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified in the sources, its listing as Historic Monuments highlights its heritage value. The available data are mainly from the Merimée database and Monumentum, without reference to additional archives.
