Origin and history
The Château de Saint-Ange, located in Villecerf in Seine-et-Marne, is a building whose origins date back to the 2nd quarter of the 16th century, with major transformations in the 17th century. This monument illustrates the architectural evolution from the Renaissance to the classical era, typical of the aristocratic residences of Île-de-France. Its partial inscription in the Monuments Historiques in 1926 (for the castle) and in 1951 (for elements of the park) underscores its heritage importance, especially for its carved decorations and landscape developments.
The castle park preserves remarkable architectural remains, such as a retaining wall decorated with vases, stairs, a canal and a basin, protected since 1951. These elements, characteristic of French gardens, testify to the influence of Italian and local models in the development of seigneurial estates. The location of the castle, near Melun, reflects its anchoring in a territory marked by the history of the Parisian and provincial elites.
Available sources (including the Monumentum database and the Mérimée data) specify that the castle is still located at 5197 Route de Dormelles in Villecerf. Although its current status (open to the public, rental, guest rooms) is not detailed in the archives consulted, its registration under the Historical Monuments guarantees legal protection of its most emblematic structures. The accuracy of its geographical location is assessed as satisfactory (level 7/10), allowing clear identification of the site.
