Origin and history
The castle of Saint-Ferréol, located in Pontevès in the Var, is an emblematic monument of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This area is distinguished by its land and landscape unit, preserved for three hundred years, where canals, buildings, plantations and crops are mixed. The spatial organization, centered around a pavilion with stone-cut facades, reflects a harmony between architecture and nature, typical of the great provencal domains of the era.
In the heart of the estate, an alley of plane trees leads to the pavilion, a neat building with a remarkable interior decor. In the dining room on the ground floor, painted canvases dating from 1762 testify to the artistic refinement of the eighteenth century. These elements, combined with the half moon of entry and outbuildings (farm, mill, dovecote), illustrate the economic, agricultural and aesthetic importance of the site.
Ranked as a Historic Monument by decree of 27 February 2013, the Château de Saint-Ferréol protects its facades, roofs, and interior decorations, as well as landscape elements such as a walkway of plane trees. This classification highlights the heritage value of an ensemble where architecture, art and agriculture form a coherent whole, representative of the Provencal rural heritage of the Modern Times.
