Origin and history
The castle of Saint-Martin-Choquel, built in the second half of the eighteenth century, is distinguished by its sober architecture, typical of the bourgeois houses of the period. The house body, made of Baincthun stone, has a protruding central span and a three-sided facade opening onto the park. The roof has been restored, and a beef eye has been restored, while the original interior decorations have disappeared, with the exception of the staircase ramp, remarkable for its elegance.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 14 December 2012, the castle protects its facades, roofs and the stairway of honour in total. The architect Sannier Giraud is mentioned as a masterpiece, although little information remains about his precise contribution. The location, noted as imprecise (level 5/10), places the monument at address 13 road of Lottinghem, in the Pas-de-Calais (62), in the Hauts-de-France region.
The castle illustrates the evolution of 18th-century aristocratic or bourgeois residences in the north of France, where the local stone and a clean aesthetic dominated. Its present state, partially restored, reflects efforts to preserve a modest but representative heritage of its time. No information is available on its contemporary use (visits, rentals, accommodation).
