Origin and history

Château de Saint-Paul-d'Oueil is a Renaissance building located in the southwest of Haute-Garonne, in the heart of the same name village. It is distinguished by its rectangular house facing north-south, supplemented by a hexagonal staircase turret to the west and a pavilion to the south. This 16th-century construction illustrates the civil architecture of the modern period, marked by maneuvring openings and a characteristic symmetry.

The stair turret, a remarkable architectural element of the castle, was listed as historical monuments on May 9, 1947. This classification reflects the heritage value of the building, although it remains a private property not open to the public. The castle is part of the landscape of the Pyrénées Hauronaises, reflecting the local history and the evolution of seigneurial residences in the Renaissance.

Located on the edge of Route 51, the Château de Saint-Paul-d'Oueil embodies the built heritage of Occitanie. Its state of conservation and its partial inscription underline its importance in the corpus of historical monuments of the Haute-Garonne, alongside other castles in the region. The current structure, although partially protected, offers an overview of the aristocratic homes of the modern era in southwestern France.
