Origin and history

The Château de Sainte-Colome is a historical monument located in the commune of the same name, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Dated between the 13th and the first quarter of the 14th century, it illustrates the defensive or residential architecture of this period, although its precise characteristics are not detailed in the available sources. At that time, the castles in New Aquitaine often served as strategic points for the control of territories or residences for local lords.

Their construction reflected the military and social needs of a region marked by feudal conflict and trade. These buildings also played a central role in the economic and agricultural organization of the surrounding villages, sometimes hosting markets or craft workshops.
