Origin and history
The Château de Sauvigny-le-Bois is an emblematic building located in the Yonne department, on the same name. Built in the 18th century by the Bertier family, it replaces an older building dating from the first half of the 17th century. This castle, renovated in the 19th century, illustrates the architectural evolutions of its era, notably through its neo-Louis XIV and neo-Louis XV woodwork, which still adorn its interiors today.
The history of the castle is closely linked to the Bertier family, which initiated its construction in the Enlightenment century. The present building also includes a pavilion, a former common of a castle of the early seventeenth century, thus highlighting the superposition of the epochs on this site. In 1996, the Château de Sauvigny-le-Bois was listed as a historical monument, embodying both the aristocratic heritage of Burgundy and the architectural transformations of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The castle is distinguished by its official inscription as historical monuments, protected by an order of 15 January 1996. This recognition concerns both the main body of the castle and the adjacent pavilion, located at the corner of the Chemin de Cussy-les-Forges and Rue des Sources. The protected elements include interior woodwork, reflecting neo-classical tastes and stylistic reinterpretations of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Although sources mention a precise location (4 Rue des Sources, 89200 Sauvigny-le-Bois), little information is available on its contemporary use, such as open to the public or services such as guided tours, room rentals or guest rooms. Current data focus primarily on its architectural history and heritage protection.
