Origin and history
Talaud Castle, located in Loriol-du-Comtat in the department of Vaucluse, was built in 1757, during the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. This emblematic building of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region is representative of the Provencal rural architecture of this time, marked by the rise of wine estates and seigneurial residences. Its designation as historic monuments on 13 September 1988 underscores its heritage importance, both for its history and for its current economic role.
Originally, the castle belonged to the Marquis Gride d'Estublon, a local figure whose name remains associated with this domain. Today, the site is managed by a Civil Society of Agricultural Exploitation (SCEA), active in the cultivation of the vine under the name AOC Ventoux. The castle also houses a hotel activity, integrated into the classified walls, making it a rare example of living heritage, combining wine production and tourist reception. Its cellar, unique in the commune of Loriol-du-Comtat, strengthens its anchor in the regional wine landscape.
The estate is distinguished by its dual vocation: agricultural (villages in AOC Ventoux) and tourist (guest rooms and space rental). This diversification reflects a modern tendency to preserve French castles through their economic enhancement. The wines produced respect the strict specifications of AOC Ventoux, guaranteeing a quality linked to the terroir. The castle, owned by a private company, remains open to the public, thus perpetuating its central role in local life.
The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its status as a listed monument and specify its exact address: 5769 Chemin de Talaud, 84870 Loriol-du-Comtat. The location, noted as fair (level 5/10) in the Merimée base, invites a visit to discover this historical and dynamic heritage. The Insee code of the municipality (84067) and its attachment to the district of Avignon complete its territorial anchor.
