Origin and history

The Château de Terre de Causans, located in Jonquières in the Vaucluse, is a historical estate composed of a castle, a chapel, houses and a private school. This estate originally belonged to the noble Provencal family of Vincens de Causans, linked to the principality of Orange. It was erected as a marquisat in 1667, marking its importance in the region.

The castle, built in the Middle Ages, was rebuilt in the Renaissance and rebuilt in the 17th century after destruction during the Wars of Religion. The present chapel, dedicated to Saint Martin, dates from 1860 and was designed by architect Geoffrey. The estate also includes a private school, Notre-Dame, opened in 1835 and still active today.

The Terre de Causans was listed as a historical monument in 1997, recognizing its heritage value. The domain reflects local history, mixing aristocratic heritage, religious architecture and education, with prominent figures such as Jacques and Paul de Vincens de Causans, involved in the political and social life of their time.
