Origin and history

The Château de Thézan, located in Saint-Didier in the Vaucluse, is a building whose architectural history is partially documented by its successive protections. The facades, roofs, as well as interior elements such as the Hall of Feasts or a fireplace, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments in 1975. A second wave of protection in 2022 extended this recognition to all the buildings around the court of honour, the park, orangery and water castle, reflecting the heritage importance of the site.

The castle, now owned by a private company, is visited from May to September, with defined times and rates. Its openness to the public and the precision of protected elements (such as interior decorations or fence walls) suggest a maintained site, where architecture and landscape developments are valued. The exact address, 58 Rue Haute à Saint-Didier, and its Insee code (84108) confirm its anchoring in the commune, near Avignon, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

The legal protections of 1975 and 2022 highlight two key stages in its preservation. The first decree targeted point elements (slide with screws, living rooms), while the second adopted a global approach, including outbuildings and the park. This reflects an increasing recognition of the heritage value of the estate, although available sources do not specify the initial construction periods or sponsors.
