Origin and history
Tourrette-Levens Castle is a medieval building built in the 13th century, although some sources evoke a partial origin in the 12th century. It is located in the commune of Tourrette-Levens, in the Alpes-Maritimes department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Originally, it had six towers, three of which were round and three square, but only one remains today. This castle was considered one of the most remarkable in the region at its peak.
The Chabaud family, represented by Raymond Chabaud, owned the fief until 1684. This lineage marked local history by keeping the castle as a symbol of power and prestige for centuries. The monument was partially preserved, and its fortified enclosure, as well as the remains of the castle, were inscribed in historical monuments by order of 15 September 1937.
Today, the castle of Tourrette-Levens remains an architectural testimony of the medieval period in the Alpes-Maritimes. Although its present state reflects only part of its past greatness, it continues to attract attention for its history and its role in local heritage. However, the information available on its contemporary uses, such as visits or services offered, remains limited in the sources consulted.
