Origin and history

The castle of Trasrieux, located in Saint-Julien-le-Petit in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, is a house built in the seventeenth century. This building, a height of one floor, adopts a simple plan in depth, with one room per level. Its architecture is distinguished by a central pavilion covered with a rumped roof, dominating the whole, as well as a particularly wide stairwell, revealing a desire for ostination peculiar to the time.

Outside, the castle features 17th-century decorative elements, such as oval oculus and a frame dome topped by a lanternon. These carved details reflect the architectural taste of the period, mixing functionality and aesthetics. The house, which has been fully protected since 2014, also includes ancillary constructions such as a porch and a frame hangar, demonstrating its heritage importance.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 22 August 2014, the castle of Trasrieux illustrates the evolution of seigneurial or bourgeois residences in Limousin. Its state of conservation and its architectural peculiarities, such as slate cover or interior arrangements, make it a remarkable example of the easy rural habitat of that time. The location, although not precise (level 5/10), would place the monument at the approximate address of 5073 Tras Rieux, in the commune of Saint-Julien-le-Petit.
