Origin and history
The Château de Tremauville, located in Sahurs, Normandy, is a marina built in the 18th century by the nobility of Rouenne. This historic monument illustrates the refined architecture of the era, with symmetrical elevations in brick and stone, and preserved interiors: panelling, fireplaces, and painted or carved panels. A fire in the 1880s destroyed a wing of the building, but the main structure and its decorations, including Chinese scenes, remained.
The estate extends over a landscaped park built in the 19th century, complemented by terraces, communes and outbuildings dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. Listed as a Historic Monument in 2015, the castle and its park (including fences and floors) are protected for their heritage value. The site thus preserves all its original interior arrangements, offering an intact testimony of Norman aristocratic art of living.
Like other residences in the region, this castle reflects the taste of the Rouennais elites for rural properties, combining comfort, aesthetics and prestige symbols. Its park, typical of 19th century landscape developments, reinforces its character as a resort, while the old outbuildings recall its anchoring in a wider agricultural and seigneurial domain.
