Origin and history

The Château de Vallegue is a medieval building located in the municipality of the same name, in Haute-Garonne (Occitanie). Mentioned in 1273 as royal possession, it is the best preserved element of the old fortified village. Its architecture, marked by disparate elements renovated since the fourteenth century, finds its unity thanks to its long north facade. The castle was sold several times during the 19th century, reflecting its historical evolution and changes of ownership.

The monument is characterized by protected areas, including its facade walls (both indoor and outdoor), roofs, a medieval vaulted cellar and a grain dryer. These elements, listed in the Historic Monuments since 2003, illustrate its heritage importance. Although private, the castle reflects local history and architectural transformations over the centuries, from its royal origins to its more recent uses.

Today, the castle of Vallegue remains a testimony of the defensive and social organization of the Middle Ages in this region. Its designation as Historic Monuments in 2003 underscores its heritage value, while preserving structures such as the vaulted cellar and the adjoining underground, which offer an overview of the construction techniques and agricultural or domestic uses of the time.
