Origin and history

Villeblain Castle is an emblematic monument located in the hamlet of Villeblain, on the town of Chacrise, in the department of Aisne. It is distinguished by its square tower dating from the 16th century, which is the most remarkable element of the site. Although the interior of the castle is no longer in good condition, restoration work allowed to renew the roof in May 2012, thus ensuring part of its preservation.

The property also includes an old stable transformed into an orangery, located on the other side of the street. This attached building bears witness to the historic significance of the estate, which probably served as a seigneurial residence or agricultural management site. The castle was listed as historic monuments in 1928, recognizing its heritage and architectural value.

The site is part of a regional context marked by medieval and Renaissance history, where castles played a central role in social and economic organization. In Aisne, as in other regions of the Hauts-de-France, these buildings often served as administrative centres, defence sites or residences for noble families. Their presence reflected the feudal hierarchy and dominant agricultural activities of the time.
