Origin and history

Villemorien Castle, located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region, is a building built mainly in the 18th century, with amenities at the beginning of the 19th century. It is distinguished by its architecture and its vast 13-hectare park, combining gardens with French and English, as well as an orchard, vegetable garden and orangery. The estate, always surrounded by wood, reflects the influence of the landscape styles of the time.

The castle was owned by Bénigne-André Legendre de Villemorien, who built the park there. He also served as a refuge for Hubert Robert after his release from revolutionary prisons. This painter, known for his representations of animated ruins, produced works sold there in 1868. The castle, listed as a Historical Monument in 1987 and classified in 1990, now houses a remarkable salon known as the Sanctuary of Folia, dating from the first quarter of the 19th century.

The domain, still active, hosts private events by reservation. Its history is marked by its inscription in the local heritage, illustrating the evolution of aristocratic residences between the 18th and 19th centuries. The facades, roofs, commons and the old kennel have been protected since 1987, while the exhibition in 1990 shows its artistic and historical importance.
