Origin and history

The Château de Villeniard is a residence in Vaux-sur-Lunain, Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region. Former aristocratic property, it was built between the 19th and 20th centuries according to the plans of architect Léon Gouvenin. Originally he belonged to Count Louis de Ségur, a political figure of the time, and was decorated with remarkable tapestries, furniture and paintings.

The castle is distinguished by its square plan flanked by two cylindrical towers, although it has no particularly marked architectural features. In the 21st century, it was converted into a retirement home, ranked among the best in the department by the Emeis group. Its location, close to the border with Burgundy-Franche-Comté, makes it an emblematic place of the region.

The history of the castle is closely related to its original owner, the Count of Ségur, whose political influence and taste for the arts shaped its interior. Today, although its function has changed, the castle retains part of its historical prestige thanks to its architecture and its aristocratic past.
