Origin and history

The château des Bédaures, also known as château des Bédores, is a bourgeois residence built in 1889 in the commune of Trevol, in the department of Allier. Located 4 km east of the village, it is accessible by the departmental road D 288 and extends over an area of 60 hectares, surrounded by a 6 km wall. This 19th-century castle is distinguished by its wooded park and impressive architecture, typical of the residences of the industrial bourgeoisie of the period.

The castle was commissioned by Louis Golliaud (1845-1924), a member of an affluent family of Moulins, reflecting the social prestige of its owners. In 2010, owner Beatrice Buerchler-Keller donated it to the Austrian association Gut Aidebichl, dedicated to the protection of abused animals. The estate, the largest of the association in Europe, now hosts more than a hundred horses, as well as cats and dogs at the end of their lives or rescued.

Ranked among the castles of Allier, the site combines architectural heritage and contemporary commitment. Although carefully restored, its history remains focused on its initial vocation as a bourgeois residence, before its transformation into a refuge. Local sources, such as the book Châteaux, fiefs, mots, fortified houses and manor houses in Bourbonnais (2004), briefly mention its existence without further details on any significant events.
