Origin and history
Château des Chaulets is a building located in Souvigny, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built between 1780 and 1789, its work was interrupted by the French Revolution and resumed from 1800 to 1807. The building consists of a one-storey rectangular house body, supplemented by communes in the east. Its northern gate, decorated with pilasters surmounted by carved pine apple motifs, marks access between the courtyard and the park.
The castle has been partially listed as historical monuments since December 30, 1976, for its facades and roofs. Close to the Priory Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Souvigny (2 km away), it illustrates the aristocratic architecture of transition between the 18th and 19th centuries, marked by the political upheavals of the Revolution. Its history reflects the adaptations of local elites to the socio-economic changes of the time.
