Origin and history
The Château des Créneaux, located in Trucy-l'Orgueilleux in the Nièvre, is a monument whose origins date back to the fourteenth century. It was completely rebuilt in the 17th century, then transformed into a farm in the 19th century. Its architecture consists of a 17th-century house body, 19th-century agricultural buildings and old court walls organized around a square courtyard, flanked by circular towers. This set reflects the architectural and functional evolutions of the site throughout the centuries.
Near the castle extends a property that originally formed a coherent whole, including a master house built in 1849 and vast commons arranged by horse iron. These elements illustrate the adaptation of the estate to the residential and agricultural needs of the 19th and 20th centuries. The castle, including its interior decorations and ancient moats, as well as the communes in the east and south, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 5 March 2003.
The location of the castle, although documented (address: 58460 Trucy-l'Orgueilleux), has a geographical accuracy deemed to be satisfactory (note 6/10). This monument reflects the local dynamics of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, between medieval heritage, modern transformations and agricultural use, typical of the rural castles of this region.
