Origin and history

The Château des Hayes Gasselin is a building fortified in ruins located in the municipality of Andrezé, in the department of Maine-et-Loire (Pays de la Loire). Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it combined a fortress and a chapel surrounded by moat. Today, only the north and west facades remain partially, as well as wall elements like chimneys visible from the south. These remains bear witness to its medieval and reborn defensive architecture.

The castle was destroyed in 1794 during the Vendée wars, when the Republican troops severely damaged it. Despite this episode, the building was listed in the inventory of the Historic Monuments on February 16, 1970, ensuring the conservation of the remains still standing. Legal protection specifically covers the remaining facades and associated wall structures, classified under cadastre B 262 and 268.

Located at Les Hayes in the municipality of Andrezé (code INSEE 49023), the site has been geographically linked to the new municipality of Beaupréau-en-Mauges since 2015. Available sources (Wikipedia, Merimée base, Monumentum) confirm its protected property status, without specifying its current accessibility to the public. No information is provided on any designated historic owners or occupants.
