Origin and history
The château des Loges, located in Hauterive, Normandy, is a typical example of the early seventeenth century constructions. Its initial architecture, marked by two bodies of square buildings connected by a stair tower, reflects the cannons of the time. The outbuildings occupy the forecourt and the court of honour, organizing the space according to a rational plan characteristic of the seigneurial houses of this period.
In the 18th century, the castle underwent important transformations that modernized its appearance while preserving some old structures. An angle tower with murderers, medieval defensive vestige, is then converted into a dovecote, illustrating the evolution of aristocratic usages and needs. These changes reflect the adaptation of buildings to new architectural modes and more peaceful residential functions.
Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 12 July 1995, the Château des Loges protects a remarkable ensemble including the house, the facades and roofs of outbuildings, the dovecote, the moats, as well as the plate of the courtyard of honor with its walls and pillars. The access driveway and the garden complete this heritage, now owned by a private company. The official inscription underlines the historical and architectural value of this site, representative of noble residences in Lower Normandy.
The location of the castle, specified by GPS coordinates and postal address (8 Cht les Loges, 61250 Hauterive), confirms its anchoring in the department of Orne. Although the practical information on the visits or services offered is not detailed in the available sources, its status as a protected monument guarantees careful preservation of its original characteristics.
