Origin and history

The Château des Sallèles is a historic monument located in the commune of Banassac, in Lozère, in the former province of Gevaudan. Built in the Lot Valley, it finds its origins in the 16th century, although a villa existed on this site from the 11th century. His first certified owner, in 1524, was Antoine Bompars, marking the beginning of his documented history.

In the 18th century, the castle passed into the hands of the Yzarn de Fraissinet family, already owner of the nearby castle of Saint-Saturnin. In 1808, it was passed on to Nogaret's family by the marriage of Louise Boudon de La Roquette with Baron Pierre Barthélémy de Nogaret. These changes of ownership reflect the social alliances and dynamics of the modern era in Gevaudan.

At the end of the 19th century, the castle was transformed into a religious institution, leading to major development work. The nuns occupied the place until 2002, when the castle was sold and converted into a hotel-restaurant. This evolution illustrates the adaptation of historical heritages to contemporary needs, while preserving their original structure.
