Origin and history

The château du Cluzeau is an 18th-century building located in Estivareilles, in the Allier department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in 1705 as a pleasure house and centre of a farm, it illustrates the classical architecture of the period, marked by symmetry and an opening outwards. Its triangular pediment and bariolate pink sandstone elements of Vallon-en-Sully are characteristic of this style.

The two wings of commons, added in 1782 on both sides of the court, follow the bourbonnais architectural model. This domain reflects the mansions of the eighteenth century, combining residential function with agricultural activity. The castle has been listed as historic monuments since 2009, highlighting its heritage value.

In 1895, the castle belonged to Viscount Pierre-Emmanuel-Louis de Lambertye, although little information was available on its precise role in the history of the estate. The building, with its interiors, communes, dairies and castle, is fully protected, including the surrounding plots (cadastre AB 169 to 172).
