Origin and history

The Château du Fieu is a monument located in the commune of Lacrouzette, in the department of Tarn, in the Occitan region. Although its date of construction remains unknown, as early as 1695 it was mentioned in the records of capitation as belonging to a tenant named François Vaysse, heir to Jacques Canitot de Castres. This document attests to its existence and status as agricultural property at that time.

In 1823, the castle was owned by Pierre Bouissière, victim of a robbery committed by Louis Azema, nicknamed "Sarretts". This event, reported in the archives, illustrates rural life and social tensions of the time. The castle, located to the south of the village, consists of several buildings, including agricultural outbuildings and a three-storey main house body, flanked by a round tower with a pepper roof.

The architecture of the castle of the Fieu reflects its mixed use, both seigneurial residence and farm. Access to the entrance is via two successive steps, leading to a terrace. Despite its partly documented history, the monument bears witness to the economic and social dynamics of the region, notably through the mentions of farmers and landowners.
