Origin and history

Château du Lattay is a French building located in the municipality of Andouillé, in the department of Mayenne. It stands on the slopes of the hills overlooking the right bank of the Ernée River. This geographical positioning gives it a dominant view of the surrounding valley, typical of 19th century aristocratic constructions in this region.

Built around 1850 by M. Turpin de la Tréhardière, the castle presents an architecture described as "very simple" by Abbé Angot. At the end of the 19th century, the site was equipped with an innovative system for the time: an oil engine to pump water from the river to the castle. This facility reflects the technological advances of the industrial period in rural areas.

The local archives, including the parish registers of the Trinity of Laval and the documents of the Archives départementales de la Mayenne, mention the castle without providing further details about its occupants or its precise role in local life. Abbé Angot's work, published between 1900 and 1910, remains the main source for his history, highlighting his discreet character in the Mayen heritage landscape.
