Origin and history
The Magny Castle is a 17th century building located in the municipality of Sarry, Saône-et-Loire. This monument, typical of Burgundy rural architecture, is distinguished by its dovecote, the only element protected by historical monuments since 13 March 1995. Its registration reflects the heritage importance of this type of construction in the region.
Burgundy-Franche-Comté, in the 17th century, was marked by a rural society where castles and their outbuildings, like dovecotes, symbolized seigneurial power. These buildings served both food reserves and social affirmation. The Magny Castle is part of this, reflecting the agricultural and hierarchical practices of the time.
Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) indicate that the dovecote is the only protected part of the estate, located at 5050 Le Magny, 71110 Sarry. No additional information is provided on other parts of the castle or its possible historic owners.
