Origin and history
The Château du Roi Jean, located in Béthisy-Saint-Pierre in the Hauts-de-France, is a 14th century historical monument. Although little documented in the available sources, it has been listed in Historical Monuments since 1949, especially for its facades, roofs and enclosure wall. This castle is an example of late medieval architecture, typical of the local fortifications of this period.
At that time, castles served primarily as seigneurial residences and strategic defence points. In the Hauts-de-France region, at the time marked by intense conflicts and cultural exchanges, these buildings played a key role in protecting territories and populations. The Château du Roi Jean is in this context, although its precise historical details remain poorly known.
