Origin and history

The Château du Vouchot, built in the 12th century as a plain fortress with quadrangular platforms, was changed in the 15th century before being transformed into a modern residence in the 18th century. Its current architecture combines a rectangular house flanked by two hexagonal towers (back façade) and two detached round towers, remains of the old castle visible on the north cadastral. A terrace remains east side, bordering the departmental road D3, while the lower courtyard marks the historic right-of-way. This private monument, not open to the public, has been partially classified since 1995 for its Louis XIII portal, witness to its architectural metamorphoses.

The seigneury of Vouchot belonged from the 15th century to the Garnier family, noble Burgundys attested from 1461. Jehan Garnier (1486) and his descendant Philibert (tested 1607) illustrate this line, linked to Glenne's chestnutry. In the 17th century, Charlotte Garnier, wife of Jacques-François de L The Lagoutte, whose coat of arms "of Azure with the chevron waved with gold", retained Vouchot until 2005, marking its history with military alliances (François-Xavier, lieutenant-colonel in 1866) and inheritances without posterity.

The family of Lanouveau, originally from the Cevennes and settled in Saône-et-Loire since 1947, acquired the castle in 2005. Ludovic and Brigitte de Lanouvelle then undertook important works, including the 15th century pigeon-house restaurant. Their coat of arms "gathered aside with the oxen of Gules and the arch of Noah" added to the history of the place, while the Garnier and Lagoutte remained associated with its historic coat of arms. The Louis XIII portal, inscribed in the Historic Monuments, today symbolizes this private heritage where Middle Ages, Renaissance and Classicism mingle.
