Origin and history
Château de Saint-Jean-Ligoure is an iconic monument located in the commune of the same name, in Haute-Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This site is particularly representative of the history of the studs since the 16th century, although the precise details of its evolution remain little documented in the available sources. Its stables, home, outbuildings and park testify to an architectural and equestrian heritage marked by centuries of activity.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, the castle was officially protected by order of 8 December 2017. This decree covers all the stables, the facades and roofs of the house and outbuildings, as well as the park and the enclosure wall. These protected elements illustrate the historical and cultural importance of the site, particularly in the area of equine breeding.
The location of the castle, although specified by GPS coordinates and an address, however, remains of an accuracy deemed poor (level 5/10), which may complicate a precise identification of the site for visitors or researchers.
