Origin and history

The Château Le Mont Suzey is a neo-norman building built between 1902 and 1903 in Yvoy-le-Marron, Loir-et-Cher. He was commissioned by Jules Berthier, founder of the Compagnie havraiise des Eaux, and he embodied the opulence that marked the Sologne between 1890 and 1914. Its style is distinguished by skewed wooden panels and picturesque high parts, although some original elements – such as varnished brick headset and copper roofs – have disappeared or are being restored.

The monument is part of a complete architectural complex, including commons, typical of the bourgeois resort residences of the early twentieth century. Ranked Historical Monument since 1995 for its facades and roofs, it reflects the enthusiasm of the era for eclectic constructions, combining medieval references and modern comfort. Today's private property, the castle retains a major heritage interest, showing a slender period for the region.

The location of the site, noted as "very satisfactory" (level 8/10), and its general condition underline its importance in the solognot landscape. Although some decorative details have suffered from time, recent works aim to restore their original appearance, thus preserving the authenticity of this remarkable architectural heritage.
