Origin and history

Nairac Castle is a wine estate located in Barsac, Gironde, listed as a historical monument since 2017. Founded in the 17th century by André Duranceau, it was bought in 1759 by Elizabeth Prost, then in 1777 by Elisha Nairac, a Bordeaux shipowner involved in the slave trade. The present castle, built in 1786 by architect André Mollié, remained in the Nairac family until 1837, before being merged with the Château Broustet under the name Broustet-Nairac, ranked second in 1855.

After the division of the estate in 1906, the Château Nairac changed hands several times: sold in 1966 to a Bordeaux municipal councillor, then in 1971 to Thomas Heeter and Nicole Tari, daughter of the owner of the Château Giscours. Since 1987, Nicole Tari-Heeter has been the sole owner, and her children Nicolas and Éloïse have been managing it since 1993. The vineyard, composed mainly of semillon, produces wines from AOC Barsac.

The castle is listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments on 13 September 2017 for its architecture, mixing 17th century elements with 18th century structure. Its history reflects the evolution of the great Bordeaux crus, marked by families of shipowners and traders, as well as prestigious classifications such as that of 1855.
