Origin and history

Puisseux-le-Hinberger Castle is a historical monument made up of successive architectural contributions from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The oldest part, the Aguesseau Pavilion, was built in the early seventeenth century. This first element reflects the style of the era, marked by a sober but elegant architecture, typical of the aristocratic residences of the region.

In the middle of the 18th century, around 1752, the Marquis of the family had the central pavilion built, known as d'Armentières, and the pavilion of Aguesseau was replaced. These works illustrate the evolution of tastes towards a more ornamental style, characteristic of the Enlightenment century. The interiors, especially the woodwork, were particularly neat, reflecting the refinement of the period.

In 1825, Madame Boula de Mareuil, ancestor of the present owner, commissioned the construction of the south wing and the two low wings surrounding the pavilion of Armentières. These 19th century additions complete the whole, while integrating neoclassical elements. The interior decor, carefully composed, as well as exterior spaces such as the park and the communes, were partially protected by decrees in 1986 and 2024.

The castle is distinguished by its coherent architectural ensemble despite the various periods, as well as by its protected elements, including remarkable woodwork, a chapel, and a park with landscape elements such as wolf jumps and a greenhouse. These successive protections highlight the heritage value of the site, both for its history and its aesthetics.

Located in Puisseux-le-Hnberger in Oise, the castle is part of a territory marked by a rural and aristocratic history. Monuments of this type often served as secondary residences for noble families, while playing a local economic role through domestic employment and maintenance of surrounding lands. The castle, still partially inhabited or used today, thus preserves a living trace of this past.
