Origin and history

The church of Luthézieu, located in the commune of Belmont-Luthézieu (département de l'Ain, région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), is a religious building dating back to the 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th centuries. It features a single-nave rectangular plan, with a Romanesque apse, a sacristy and a northern side chapel. Its vault, composed of three bays of warheads separated by double arches in full hanger, rests on half-pillars rectangular added later. The entrance door, framed by a characteristic moulding, dates from the 16th century, while the bell tower and roof are recent additions.

The church was the subject of two documented pastoral visits, in 1481 and 1581, revealing its importance in local religious life. A 1642 report mentions the construction of the current vault, suggesting that a simple structure preceded it. Registered as a historical monument by order of 11 August 1975 (with the exception of the bell tower), the building received restorations in 2016, notably for its structure and tile cover. A communal property, it embodies the architectural and spiritual heritage of Valromey.

The available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, highlight its historical and architectural interest. The church is located at 25 Chemin du Colombier in Belmont-Luthézieu, in a geographical setting classified with medium accuracy (level 5/10). Its current status and openness to the public are not specified in the documents consulted.
