Origin and history

Notre-Dame de la Roque Church is a religious building located in the commune of Jouques, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. This monument, whose location is estimated to be fair according to the precision criteria, has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since February 17, 1928. Today it belongs to the municipality and remains an emblematic place of local heritage.

Medieval or modern churches, like Jouques, played a central role in the life of Provençal communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, thus reflecting the importance of religion in the social and cultural organization of the region. These buildings were often built or renovated according to the spiritual needs and resources available in the surrounding villages.
