Origin and history

The church Saint-Joseph is located avenue Jean-Jaurès in Clamart, in the Hauts-de-Seine department. It was built to replace an eponymous chapel installed in 1908 in an old cider factory. The works, carried out by the Ermann company, resulted in a concrete and exposed brick building, of pink colour, designed in the shape of a Greek cross.

The consecration of the church took place on December 8, 1937, presided over by Cardinal Verdier. The bell tower, completed in September 1939, was blessed the same year by Cardinal Suhard. The facade is distinguished by its small glass openings, typical of the religious architecture of this period.

The church of Saint Joseph now depends on the diocese of Nanterre and remains an active place of worship in the commune. Its history reflects the urban and religious evolution of Clamart in the twentieth century, marked by the modernization of ecclesiastical infrastructures.
