Origin and history

Saint-Mamert Church is a parish Catholic building located in the centre of Chatignonville, in the Essonne department, Île-de-France. From a rectangular plane, it features a portal to the west and a flat bedside to the east, directly bordered by the main road of the village. Its roof, covered with slates, is surmounted by a bell tower at the western end. The interior houses rich furniture, including elements classified as historical monuments, such as funerary slabs dating from the 14th to the 18th century, statues, and liturgical objects from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

According to available sources, the church was built in the 15th century. Although its exact date of foundation is not specified, its architecture and furniture reflect centuries of local religious history. Funeral slabs, especially those of the family Le Boistel (XVIIIth century) or Jeanne de Landréville (XIVth century), testify to its role in the memory of the region's notables. The furniture, varied and partially protected, includes pieces such as a 15th century lutrin, 18th century baptismal fonts, or statues dedicated to Saint Mamert and Saint Denis.

The church occupies a central place in the landscape of Chatignonville, a commune located at the border between the Essonne and the Eure-et-Loir. Its location, at the crossroads of the architectural and historical influences of these territories, makes it a witness to the religious and social practices of the region since the Middle Ages. The preserved objects, such as chasubles, candlesticks or confessionals of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, illustrate the evolution of rites and local devotion over the centuries.
