Origin and history
Saint-Pierre d'Échebrune Church is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Échebrune, Charente-Maritime. Built mainly in the 12th and 16th centuries, it features architectural elements characteristic of these periods, as a main gate framed by two lateral arches reduced to niches. This monument, typical of the rural churches of the region, reflects the evolution of medieval and reborn architectural styles.
Classified as historical monuments since 1902, the church houses a 19th century painting depicting La Crucifixion, located in the right transept. This painting, which has been included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments (ISMH) since 1989, demonstrates the artistic enrichment of the building over the centuries. The church, owned by the commune, remains a place of worship and a protected local heritage, illustrating the importance of parish churches in the religious and cultural history of Charente-Maritime.
Available sources, such as Monumentum and Wikipedia, highlight its early ranking among French historical monuments, making it a significant example of the architectural heritage preserved in the region. Its address, 3 Avenue des Tilleuls, and its Insee code (17145) confirm its territorial anchoring in the historic landscape of New Aquitaine.
