Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Longeuil, located in the Seine-Maritime department in Normandy, finds its origins in the 11th and 12th centuries under the name of Notre-Dame. This first building, partially rebuilt in the 16th and 18th centuries, was restored to St Peter in the 15th century. Its current architecture, marked by the use of brick, sandstone and tufa, reflects these successive reconstruction campaigns, especially that of the eighteenth century which gave it its definitive physiognomy.
Ranked as a historical monument by decree of 20 January 1976, the church houses exceptional furniture: 15th century baptismal fonts, a bentier of the early 18th century, as well as paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. A funerary liter, a rare element, is also preserved. These objects bear witness to the artistic and liturgical evolution of the building, while stressing its central role in the religious and community life of Longeuil.
The location of the church, at 34 Chemin de l'Eglise in Longueil, and its ranking among historical monuments make it an emblematic heritage of the Seine-Maritime. Property of the municipality, it illustrates the architectural and spiritual heritage of Normandy, between medieval heritage and modern transformations. Its history, documented by sources such as Monumentum and the Merimée base, makes it a subject of study for regional Christian architecture.
