Origin and history
The Saint-Symphorian church of Suilly-la-Tour is a religious building located in the Nièvre department, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 9 May 1914, it now belongs to the municipality and bears witness to a local architectural and cultural heritage. Its exact location, 1 Chemin des Dards, is documented in the Merimée and Monumentum bases, with geographical accuracy deemed a priori satisfactory.
Parish churches like Saint-Symphorian played a central role in the life of Burgundy rural communities. At the beginning of the twentieth century, when it was ranked, these buildings were often places of assembly, worship and social life. Their preservation reflected a desire to safeguard a collective heritage, in a context where industrialization and rural change were beginning to transform landscapes and lifestyles.
The region, marked by an agricultural and wine-growing tradition, saw these monuments as symbols of historical continuity.
