Origin and history

The Saint-Pierre de Bois-le-Roi church, located in Seine-et-Marne, is a Roman Catholic religious building. It is said to have been built on the remains of an old religious house founded at the request of the monks of Saint Peter Abbey in Melun. Originally, it had three naves separated by ogival arches, resting on carved pillars. His condition, considered dangerous in 1837, led to the reconstruction of three quarters of the building, retaining only the bell tower and main porch.

At the end of the 19th century, the interior of the church was completely restored. During the Second World War, she suffered significant damage. The bell tower, a square tower on two levels, ends with a slightly disoriented arrow, while the main porch is decorated with archicvolts. The church houses stained glass windows and a cross path made by painter Georges Lecaron (1899-1974), as well as several objects classified or inscribed in historical monuments, such as a 16th century painting or a statue of Saint Eterne.

The St. Peter's church was listed as a historical monument by order of 18 March 1926, as a property of the commune. It is located in the heart of the village, near Verdun Street, and plays a central role in the local heritage. Its furniture, including sculptures, paintings and baptismal fonts dating from the 14th to the 19th century, bears witness to its rich historical and artistic past.
