Origin and history
The church of Chérier, located in the Loire department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, is a religious monument whose construction periods span several centuries: XII, XVI and XVIIe. This place of worship, inscribed as Historical Monument by decree of 6 September 1978, reflects the architectural and spiritual evolutions of the region throughout these epochs. Its location, at 9 Rue du Vieux Bourg, bears witness to its anchoring in the historic heart of the commune.
Medieval and modern churches such as that of Cherier played a central role in community life. In the 12th century, they were often the assembly point for the religious, social and even political activities of villages. In the 16th and 17th centuries, these buildings were able to undergo changes related to liturgical changes, religious conflicts or the enrichment of parishes.
Their preservation until today allows us to study the evolution of regional construction techniques and artistic styles.
