Origin and history
The church Saint-Antoine de Vallentigny is a religious building located in the Aube department in the Grand Est region. It is distinguished by an architecture combining two epochs: the nave, built in the 12th century, bears witness to Romanesque art, while the choir and transept, erected in the 16th century, reflect late Gothic evolutions. This monument thus illustrates the medieval and renaissant stylistic transitions in an area marked by its Christian heritage.
The church of Saint-Antoine was classified and registered as a historical monument in 1948 and was specifically protected: the choir and transept were classified by order of 29 September 1948, while the nave was registered on the same date. This double measure highlights the heritage value of its oldest parts as later additions. The management of the monument is now the responsibility of the municipality of Vallentigny, which ensures its preservation and its openness to the public.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, specify that the church is located at 30 Rue des Bûchettes, in a rural environment characteristic of the Aube. Its observatory of religious heritage and its Mérimée sheet attest to its importance in the architectural landscape of Champagne. Although the details of its founders or intermediate transformations are lacking, its present state offers a representative example of the village churches of the Great East, between medieval heritage and modern adaptations.
