Origin and history

The Ville-Basse cemetery, located in Angles-sur-l'Anglin (New Aquitaine), houses a remarkable historical monument: a 12th century cemetery cross. This building consists of a small edicle consisting of four coupled columns, surmounted by an altar backed by its base. Its sober architecture and its seniority make it a rare testimony of medieval religious art in the region.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 21 March 1910, this cross is the only protected part of the cemetery. The precise location of the monument is estimated as fair (note 5/10), based on available data, and its approximate address corresponds to the 14 Pier First President Perevier. Property of the municipality, its access and current vocation (visit, cult, etc.) are not specified in the sources.
