Origin and history

Cinema Eldorado is an independent film complex located in Dijon, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the first quarter of the 20th century, it stands out for its Art Deco facade, blending classic influences such as glittering drop tables. This building occupies the site of an old ballroom frequented by local workers, reflecting the evolution of urban leisure in the early 1920s.

The building permit was issued on 17 October 1919, and the cinema opened in July 1920. Since 1972, he has been labeled "Art et Essay", a guarantee of his demanding programming and cultural commitment. The façade, classified as a historic monument since 20 August 1986, bears witness to its heritage importance. Cinema has also played a key role in Dijon's cultural life, hosting since 1995 the closing ceremony of the Dijon International Short Film Festival.

Headed by Matthias Chouquer since January 2008, succeeding Alain Cramier, Eldorado underwent a major restoration and reopened in 2012. This place thus combines architectural history, worker memory and contemporary cultural dynamism, while remaining anchored in the French cinemaphile landscape.
