Origin and history

The Citroën Conservatory is an industrial museum inaugurated in 2001, located in a building of 6500 m2 adjacent to the former PSA factory in Aulnay-sous-Bois. It houses a collection of 370 cars, including iconic models such as the Citroën Type A, racing cars and concept cars, as well as kilometers of commercial and advertising archives. These documents, once scattered between La Ferté-Vidame, Rennes, Aulnay-sous-Bois and a Parisian site, are now centralized. The conservatory systematically keeps at least two functional copies of each model produced by Citroën since its inception.

The site, accessible to the general public and by appointment, welcomes approximately 4,300 visitors annually, including collectors, Citroën clubs, PSA employees, journalists and partners such as Michelin or Total. He actively participates in external events by lending vehicles for trade shows and gatherings. In 2017, 64 duplicate vehicles were auctioned, exceeding value estimates. Although the conservatory must move to Poissy, it remains open until 30 June 2024, the date of its temporary closure for transfer.

The conservatory also plays a tourist role, working with the Seine-Saint-Denis Departmental Tourism Committee to organise regular visits. Its move marks a transition in the preservation of Citroën's automobile heritage, while maintaining its accessibility to the public and the sector's stakeholders. The collection, unique in its completeness, illustrates the technical and design evolution of the brand since its creation.
