Facades and roofs (Case A 469): inscription by order of 5 August 1976

Origin and history

The Commandery des Templiers de Joucas is a medieval building located in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This monument, whose exact origin and construction period are not specified in the available sources, is representative of the Templar settlements that played an economic, religious and military role in the Middle Ages region. Its architecture and location reflect the influence of the Order of the Temple in southern France.

The facades and roofs of the commandory were inscribed under the title of the Historical Monuments by order of 5 August 1976, reflecting their heritage value. This protection applies specifically to cadastral parcel A 469. Although the sources do not detail its history or its transformations, this type of monument was generally linked to the reception of pilgrims, the management of agricultural land and the defence of territories.

The location in Joucas, a typical village in Provence, suggests integration into the Templar networks of the region.
